Changes are Coming for the New 2023 Subaru Crosstrek in Albuquerque, NM
If you’ve been thinking about buying a Subaru Crosstrek, you may have discovered that the subcompact crossover will be a complete redesign for the next model year. With new upgrades coming inside and out, you might want to wait for the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek in Albuquerque, NM. The Subaru Corporation is known for being very guarded with the release of photos or specs of new models until they’re ready to introduce them, so there have been no official announcements so far. A disguised Crosstrek was recently spotted in Detroit, and spy shots have given us a few ideas of what the exterior may look like when it gets here. And although the automaker has officially confirmed nothing, we believe the following to be some of the fundamental changes coming to the new model.
Exterior Changes

The covered-up Crosstrek appears to have a modified body under the camouflage in the photos we’ve seen. A basic resemblance between the current model and the new one can be seen, but with noted changes. The lower front fascia takes on a more trapezoidal shape, and the grille has an upright in the center, with a wavy-looking pattern to the mesh. The headlights appear to have a sharper styling as well.
From the side, the cabin shape remains quite like the existing model, but with a few minor changes. Body lines seem to have been toned down, and fenders are modified with the front wheel surround getting a vent on the rear portion. The roof rack looks like it’s been redesigned, and the back C-pillar and glass on the hatchback appear steeper than on the current model.
In the back, the taillights show a more distinct bracket shape. There seem to be vertical outlets on the rear bumper behind the wheels and a new rear-end with a new hatch/tailgate.
New Interior
There are no interior images of the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek in Albuquerque, NM. However, suppose we can judge by the newest Subaru models on the market. In that case, it’s likely to get a larger, portrait-oriented infotainment screen with an updated version of Subaru’s StarLink Multimedia. We expect more advanced safety and driver-assist features to be added across the lineup of 2023 Crosstrek models. This subcompact has a history of strong crash-test scores and a solid reputation for safety, so naturally, more of the same should be included.
Under the Hood of the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek in Albuquerque, NM
Keeping with Subaru tradition, AWD will remain standard on all trims as will a boxer-style 4-cylinder. We think the smaller 2.0-liter engine (152 hp) will be put to pasture since it is a bit lacking in the performance area. The 2.5-liter 4-cylinder offered on the Crosstrek Sport and Limited trims on the 2021 models will most likely become the powerplant for the 2023 model. Interestingly (and happily) enough, the 2.5-liter delivers 182 hp and 176 lb-ft of torque while still achieving the same fuel economy!
The future of the available manual transmission is up in the air. We think it will likely go the way of the smaller engine, although we’re hoping it stays. The CVT found in other Subaru models will probably be the transmission across the Crosstrek lineup. The plug-in hybrid version will, of course, be available as well. We expect a Wilderness Edition to come along a little later after the new 2023 model is released (probably summer/fall of 2022).
